Max S 500 - Integrated Subsurface Investigation System

The Max S 500 is an integrated subsurface investigation system using magnetotellurics (MT): it reads natural electromagnetic field variations to profile the ground down to 500 metres, mapping aquifers, fractures and bedrock in real-time 2D/3D - and reports a drilling feasibility percentage.

What you get

The complete Max S 500 kit

The whole system arrives in one rolling field case - the three instruments, the electrodes and cabling, and power for a day on site. This is everything that comes out of the box.

  1. Rolling three-tier field case

    Latched top box, lift-out middle tray and a wheeled bottom bin with a pull handle. Everything below lives in it.

  2. Max S-500 host unit

    The orange unit that runs the profiling survey and pairs with a tablet over Bluetooth for the integrated ADS software.

  3. Max Lora 750 locator

    The 3D locating console with its detachable VHF / VLF antennas - it walks you onto the point.

  4. ADS-IP terminal, in its own hard case

    The induced-polarization unit for the vertical survey, with its cabling.

  5. Four stainless electrode rods

    With insulated grips, for the IP array.

  6. Survey cables, connectors and clips

    The multichannel cabling that links the host, the IP switch and the electrodes.

In the field

How it works in the field

  1. Pair and configure

    Connect the tablet over Bluetooth, set depth, frequency, spacing and points in the Max application.

  2. Run the profile survey

    Walk the transect while the S 500 records the live conductivity curve at each station.

  3. Read the layers

    Toggle depth layers on the profile: consistent low resistivity signals a potential aquifer; a vertical fracture signal marks a water-bearing fissure; high-resistivity blocks are bedrock.

Max S 500 FAQ

How does the Max S 500 find groundwater?

It uses magnetotellurics - measuring natural electromagnetic field variations in the earth - to build a resistivity profile of the subsurface. Low-resistivity zones indicate moisture and potential aquifers; high-resistivity zones indicate dense, dry rock.

Does the S 500 guarantee water?

No instrument can guarantee a result. The manufacturer’s manual itself advises reading results against local geological conditions and existing borehole data - which is exactly what our training teaches you to do.
